WriteInChin Privacy Policy

WriteInChin is built and operated by Chinland InfoTech, which is the contact responsible for this policy. It covers the WriteInChin app for Android and iOS, the WriteInChin web editor, and the service they call. It does not cover unrelated sites or apps you may use alongside it.

Your documents, their version history, and your settings are stored on the device you wrote them on— in your browser's local storage on the web, and in the app's own storage on a phone. They are not uploaded to us, there is no account to sync them to, and we cannot read them.

Two things follow from that, and they cut both ways. Nobody else can reach your writing — but it is also not a backup. Clearing your browser data, or removing the app, removes your documents, and the copies in one browser are independent of the copies on your phone. Export anything you would be sorry to lose.

• Text you ask us to check. When you run a spelling, spacing, or grammar check, the passage is sent to our service over an encrypted connection, checked, and the suggestions are returned. The text is not written to our database and not kept afterwards.
• Dictation audio. When you dictate, the recording is sent to be transcribed and the transcript comes back to the editor. We do not store the audio. Dictation is metered: each document has an allowance of ten minutes of audio, including retries.
• Dictionary lookups. On the web, the word you look up is sent so the article can be returned. On a phone the dictionary is bundled with the app and lookups happen offline.
• An installation identifier. The app generates a random identifier, stores it on the device, and sends it with a short-lived session token so allowances can be counted. It is made up by the app: it says nothing about you or your hardware and is not an advertising identifier.
• Nothing else. No name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or location. There is no advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting software in either client.

The WriteInChin database is deliberately small. It holds the installation identifier and whether it has been revoked; session tokens, stored as hashes rather than in the clear, with an expiry; how many seconds of dictation a document has used; daily totals; and short-lived records that stop a retried request being charged twice.

No document text, no transcripts, and no audio are stored in it. Expired sessions and old counters are cleared automatically. There is nothing in these records that carries what you wrote.

Checking, restoration, and dictionary results come from Falam components Chinland InfoTech builds and runs itself. Dictation is transcribed by Chin Voice Lab, also ours, using our own Falam speech models. We use cloud hosting and database providers acting on our behalf to run the service.

We do not sell or rent anything you write, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We disclose information only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the security of the service.

You can switch off the assistance you do not want — predictions, inline preview, spelling suggestions, quick corrections, spacing checks, rewrite, dictation, translation, and read-aloud each have their own setting. With them off, that text is not sent anywhere.

To delete a document, delete it in the app; because it was only ever on your device, that is the whole of it. Removing the app, or clearing your browser data, removes everything WriteInChin has kept locally, including the installation identifier.

Requests travel over encrypted HTTPS. Session tokens are stored as hashes rather than in the clear and expire on their own. Because your documents never reach our servers, the most effective protection for your writing is the one on your own device — a screen lock, and care with a shared computer.

WriteInChin is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information that we hold, contact us and we will review and delete it where required.

We will update this policy when the app, our providers, or our practices change, and revise the effective date above. WriteInChin is still in development; as live transcription and rewrite providers are connected, this page will say so.
