SpeakItUp Privacy Policy

SpeakItUp is built and operated by Chinland InfoTech, which is the contact responsible for this policy. It covers the SpeakItUp mobile app for Android and iOS and the service it calls. The app and its package identifiers still carry the product's original name, englishforchin, in places; it is the same app and the same policy.

This is the part that matters in a speaking app, so it goes first.

• The recording is not kept. When you tap to speak, the audio is sent over an encrypted connection to our scoring service, compared against the sentence you were given, and then discarded. It is not written to a database, not saved to a file, and not available to anyone afterwards — including us.
• The engine is ours. Scoring runs on a pronunciation engine we host on our own infrastructure. Your voice is not sent to a third-party speech service.
• The microphone. The app asks for microphone access because it cannot do its job without it. It records while you are answering, not in the background.

For each attempt, the service stores a small record so the app can show progress:

• which lesson and sentence you were practising;
• your score — an overall band and a completeness figure;
• which English words came out weak or were missed, so the app can put them in front of you again;
• technical notes about the attempt — whether the audio was clear enough to score, which engine scored it, how long it took, and which practice mode you were in.

That record is attached to your installation of the app, not to a person. It contains no name, no email address, and no audio.

SpeakItUp does not ask you to register or sign in, and never asks for your name, email address or phone number. The app identifies itself with a random installation identifier so your progress follows you between sessions on that device. It is generated by the app, says nothing about you or your phone, and is not an advertising identifier.

Accounts exist only on the administrative console used by the people who write the lessons. That is a separate surface, and no learner signs in to it.

Lesson content and the audio you listen to are downloaded and cached on the device so practice works with a poor connection. Your settings stay on the device too. Removing the app removes all of it, along with the installation identifier — which also means a reinstall starts a fresh progress record.

We use cloud hosting and database providers acting on our behalf to run the service, and the app reaches it over an encrypted connection. The English voice you hear in lessons was generated in advance by our own voice service and ships as ordinary audio; listening to it sends us nothing about you.

There is no advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software in the app. We do not sell anything the app records, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We disclose information only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the security of the service.

You can decline microphone access — you will still be able to read and listen, but not be scored. Deleting the app removes your progress and the installation identifier from the device.

To have the progress records held against your installation deleted from our side, or to ask anything about this policy, email admin@chinlandinfotech.com. Your rights may vary by location, and we may need to verify a request before acting on it.

Requests travel over encrypted HTTPS, and access to stored records is restricted to the people who operate the service. Because attempt audio is never written down, there is no store of recordings to protect in the first place — which is the strongest form this particular protection can take.

SpeakItUp is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information that we hold, contact us and we will review and delete it where required.

SpeakItUp is still in development and has not been released to the app stores. We will update this policy as the app ships and its practices settle, and revise the effective date above.
